Team Structure and Role

Proposer

The proposer of team will introduce the topic, expand on the issue and highlight important points to build a case for the team.

Promoter

The promoter will further build the case by providing strong arguments and evidences. Promoter may choose to rebut the arguments of the first speaker of the opposing team.

Polemic

The Polemic will finally try to conclude the case built by his team members. His primary role will be to rebut the arguments and cement his teams position in the debate.

Debate Format

Step 1

Group Discussion round:
Teams will participate in an engaging discussion on topics
specified. It will be conducted by the host school teacher.

Step 2

Parliamentary debate Round:
Teams will participate in a verbal contest against one another.
Each team will have 3 debates.
In each debate, all three participants will speak once.
A participant will be given an opportunity to speak for maximum four minutes.
First promoter of the team ‘Pro’ will speak followed by promoter of team ‘challenger’ and so on.
final debate will be showcased.

The team members must always be respectful. Use of cuss words must be avoided in all cases.

Judges decision will be considered final in all cases.

Teams coming to participate must come with an English teacher.

Host school team will only participate and not compete.

Participants must adhere to the time limit of 4 mins. max. After 3 min. judges will tap once and after 4 min. you must stop.

Participants will wear formals, preferably black and white combinations.

In case of any disagreement team DPS Rajnagar’s decision will be final.

Teacher representatives may be used as judges in the event.

The teams are expected to follow instructions given by the hosts in order to maintain order.

Reading Material

Schools may send minimum 1 team (3 students) and maximum 3 teams (9 Students).

Max 1 team per category. It means a school can send 3 teams (One for each category).

In order to make a team for BEES category, teachers can pick one student from Class III, 1 Student from class IV and 1 from class V or the teacher may choose all three candidates from class III only. It is to clarify that the teachers may choose students from any class and any combination provided they are from the class mentioned in BEES category.

Although we would provide food packets (Light refreshment), students may carry their lunch.

They may carry till they would register but then they need to hand it to their teacher in charge. No, students won’t be allowed to take photographs. However they can simply download their photographs from our Instagram page and Facebook Page, which will be uploaded immediately after the event.

The students will be given one of the topic given in suggested reading in GD and first 3 rounds of debate. In finale round they may be given a topic from any concurrent issue.

Yes, they may refer to the points but reading entirely from the notes will adversely affect their scores.

There will be a marginal time gap between two debates.
